By now, you’ve likely seen our 2023 SJC Drums commercial highlighting the brand’s newest kit, The Pathfinder. It’s a spot we’re especially proud of! What we’ve yet to divulge is the absolute

adrenaline rush that came from this project’s 24-hour shoot window.

At TRIWORKS, we thrive on challenges like this one, turning moments of chaos into opportunities for greatness. In order to execute all of our ideas within 24 hours, we had to do some serious planning, months to be exact. We split the shoot day into three locations – the garage, the creator space, and the concert - to bring every idea we had to life. For the sake of time, we were unable to film our content in chronological order according to the storyboard. Our pre-planning became very important in achieving our vision.

Although we had a limited amount of time to turn our thoughts into reality, we wanted to make sure our talent didn’t feel rushed or overwhelmed. We tried to create a very low-pressure atmosphere for our incredible actors. That being said, the pressure was definitely on for our team at TRIWORKS. We began setting up for the garage scene  at 7 AM on a toasty July morning in Wilmington, NC at Sammy’s dad’s house, where a young drummer would soon be joining a band. The best ventures always begin in a dimly lit garage, just ask Steve Jobs. The shot focuses on the new SJC Drums kit, The Pathfinder, as the drummer makes his way to his new band and experiments with their music. A lot goes into getting the perfect shot, including the location, lighting, angles etc. What we didn’t consider for this specific location, was the weather. The increasing heat index was an unpaid actor throughout this entire project, and - we can’t emphasize this enough - it wasn't very welcoming. With water, plenty of electrolytes and an oscillating fan, we captured a ton of great content to edit in post-production.

Once the clock struck 12 PM, we were due for a location change. Location number two was set to look like the drummer’s childhood home and exemplified a unique and artistic place for this kid to express his interest in playing the drums. The storyline sees our young drummer show his interest in music, his moms support in this venture and from there, his appreciation of the art really takes off as he is constantly practicing and continuing to become a stronger musician. In order to create the impression that a lot of time was passing while the kid practiced, we filmed a timelapse. This would include his mom walking, items in the room changing position and several different outfits. Parker and Sammy had to get the timing and camera work just right to be able to achieve this effect.

After a little downtime between scenes, we made our way to our very last location at a whopping 7 PM, staying on track with our schedule. This final scene truly encapsulates how hard work and dedication can pay off. Our drummer showed how enthusiastic he was to play the drums, and at the end of this story we see greatness emerge. The neighborhood comes together to support this garage band as they grow stronger and pursue their dreams. We love how this storyline captures the beauty of SJC Drums. They strive to make dreams attainable, and their brand’s messaging revolves around never giving up. The most wholesome part of our day was watching our young drummer, Caiden, receive his very own SJC kit and a special video from his idol, Twenty One Pilots drummer Josh Dun. Dun encouraged him to keep chasing his drumming dreams. We want to thank the cast for being such good sports during this long shoot day. We are also so incredibly grateful to SJC Drums for trusting us with turning their vision into reality. The entire process was nothing short of legendary.

That’s a wrap!
